Ian Wallace is a native of Memphis, TN.  He received his BS in Biochemistry, Cellular, and Molecular Biology in 2003 from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and also received his PhD degree from UTK in 2008 under the supervision of Dr. Daniel Roberts.  As an NSF Graduate Research Fellow in the Roberts lab, Ian investigated the structure, function, and regulation of plant and insect Major Intrinsic Proteins.

In 2009, Ian moved to the UC Berkeley Energy Biosciences Institute to pursue postdoctoral studies under the supervision of Dr. Chris Somerville.  In collaboration with Dr. Charles Anderson (Penn State), Ian developed click chemistry-based approaches to label and visualize plant cell wall polysaccharides in vivo.  Ian also began investigating the protein kinases responsible for cellulose synthase post-translational phosphorylation while at UC Berkeley.

In 2013, Ian established his independent group in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department at the University of Nevada, Reno.  Ian is currently an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry, an adjunct member of the Department of Chemistry, and a member of the UNR Center for Chemical Ecology.
