Jose Villalobos

Graduate student

I am utilizing chemical biology approaches to identify novel rational inhibitors of plant cell wall polysaccharide biosynthesis and using these compounds as probes to investigate the function of cell wall polysaccharides.

Devin Smith

Graduate Student

I am investigating the role of a predicted family of protein O-fucosyltransferases in Arabidopsis and their critical role in facilitating efficient fertilization.

Bret Hart

Biotechnology BS/MS graduate student

I am investigating the phosphoregulation of Cellulose Synthase Complex proteins with a particular emphasis on identifying protein kinases that phosphorylate CSC components and understanding how these phosphorylation events regulate protein-protein interactions within the CSC.

Edward Cruz

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Undergraduate Student

I focus on investigating protein targets and substrates of putative proten O-fucosyltransferases in Arabidopsis. Furthermore, I am developing a web-based database of phosphorylation sites for multiple organisms through machine-learning python-based programs that parse publications for experimental data.

Celeste Rodriguez

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Undergraduate

My research focuses on investigating the role of Cellulose synthase like-proteins on the integrity of the plant cell wall and to identify cell wall sensors in Arabidopsis thaliana by taking a genetic approach.  I hope to identify tissue-specific genes that contribute to cell wall integrity sensing using root hairs as a model.

Majied Habibzadeh

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Undergraduate

I am interested in identifying homologs of metazoan fringe-like glycosyltransferases in plants and understanding their function

Gabriel Aguiar

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Undergraduate

I am working to grow the FAT-PTM database by compiling raw mass spectrometry data for post-translational modifications (PTM) found in published data. I am also looking for evidence of more complex PTM structures adjacent to previously known sites using open search mass spectrometry tools.

Andrew Larsen

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Undergraduate

I am investigating the molecular mode of action of several potential glycosyltransferase inhibitors using Arabidopsis and yeast as a model.  Primarily, I am using enzymology to understand the metabolic activation of these compounds.
